Intraventricular haemorrhage due to birth injury
Definition
Traumatic haemorrhage into the intraventricular space usually arises from the choroids plexus in the term infant and in the germinal matrix in the preterm infant. In premature infants <30 weeks gestation the incidence of hemorrhage is 30-40%. Intraventricular haemorrhage can be graded on a I-IV scale. Intraventricular haemorrhage is usually seen in conjunction with other intracranial bleeding (parenchymal, subdural, subarachnoid).
