Transient tachypnoea of newborn

Definition

Transient tachypnoea of newborn is usually a benign self-limiting illness of term and near-term infants demonstrating increased respiratiory rate and requiring supplementary oxygen after birth. The chest radiograph shows prominent perihilar vascular markings with oedema of inter-lobar septa and fluid in lung fissures). Delayed resorption of lung fluid through the lymphatic system is the main pathogentic mechanism.
