Neonatal infectious mastitis
Definition Pyogenic infection of the breasts of neonates, whose breast tissue may be enlarged as a result of transplacentally transmitted maternal oestrogens. It is twice as common in female as in male infants; most cases are unilateral. It is most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus.
