Postinflammatory hypermelanosis
Definition Melanin pigmentation of the skin resulting from preceding cutaneous inflammation, particularly when this is centred on the dermo-epidermal junction as in lichen planus. Damage to melanocytes results in release of melanin into the dermis (pigmentary incontinence).
