Acute or subacute hepatic failure
Definition
Acute and subacute liver failure is characterised by onset of coagulopathy and/or hepatic encephalopathy within 8 weeks of onset of symptoms.
Exclusions
- Alcoholic cirrhosis of liver with hepatic encephalopathy

(DB94.1) - Chronic hepatic failure due to portosystemic shunt
(4B4Y) - Chronic viral hepatitis
(1E51) - Drug-induced or toxic liver disease
(DB95) - Hepatic encephalopathy
(DB97) - Hepatic failure complicating abortion, ectopic or molar pregnancy
- Icterus of fetus and newborn
(KA87) - Liver disorders in pregnancy, childbirth or the puerperium
(JA65.0) - Liver transplant failure
(NE84) - Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease with hepatic encephalopathy
