Definition
A neoplasm except of lymphoid, haematopoietic, central nervous system or related tissues which is characterised by the absence of morphologic features associated with malignancy (severe cytologic atypia, tumour cell necrosis, and high mitotic rate). Benign neoplasms remain confined to the original site of growth and only rarely metastasize to other anatomic sites.
