Definition Secondary hyperparathyroidism is a condition with enhanced parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion and high circulatory PTH level caused by metabolic changes such as hypocalcaemia, hyperphosphataemia and low 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.
