Central European tick-borne encephalitis

Definition

This is a viral infectious disease involving the central nervous system. The disease most often manifests as meningitis, encephalitis, or meningoencephalitis. This disease originates in Central Europe. The central European tick-borne encephalitis often has biphasic fever. The initial febrile stage is normally not associated with diseases of the central nervous system, but the second phase is characterized by fever and meningoencephalitis.
