Meningitis due to Staphylococcus

Definition

This is a bacterial form of meningitis due to infection with staphylococcal species, such as Staphylococcus aureus or Staphylococcus epidermidis. Meningitis is an inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, known collectively as the meninges. This is commonly due to complications due to surgery or as an infection spread through the blood from another site.
